British beekeeping is unusual in that it is mostly undertaken by enthusiastic amateurs. The main organisation supporting this is the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA). The BBKA is made up of area associations. Surrey Beekeepers Association (SBKA) is one of the largest area associations. It was founded in 1879, is a registered charity (1026386), and has over 1000 members.
